Paint Vinyl Siding

Can I paint my siding? This is probably one of the most frequently asked we get.  The simple answer is yes

Advantages of Painting Siding  As long as your siding is in good condition and is not too aged, then painting over your vinyl siding may be a good option for you.  In most cases you can definitely paint over your vinyl siding. In fact, painting your siding is a great way to update your house giving it a whole new look without the bigger expense of having it replaced. Over time, due to sun exposure and other outdoor elements, siding will get dirty and the color will fade making your once vibrant house looking drab. Aesthetically, painting your siding will give you great curb appeal and make your house appear new once again.

Unlike the old days, there are new special paint formulations that are specifically made for vinyl siding.  Manufactures like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams for example, offer some of their most popular paint colors in a vinyl safe, acrylic based paint. This water based paint works because vinyl expands and can warp in warm conditions, so by using a water permeable paint, it will  prevent  peeling or cracking caused by warping.

Painting over dirty paint is never a good idea. So, just as with any other of our projects, we always clean the surfaces first with a good power wash then allow it time to dry completely before we start any priming or moving forward.

When you should replace your siding If your siding is no longer protecting your exterior surfaces, it should probably be replaced.  Houses over 20 years old may start to wear down and moisture could get inside causing mold and to rot. We can inspect the condition of your surfaces to help you determine which option is best for you.
